Q - WHAT DOES ULTRA COMPRESSED MEAN?

A - Most all baled bedding is packaged on balers, where the compression in baling is roughly 2-to-1. Suncoast's baling system will compact our bedding in excess of 5-to-1. What that means is you get MORE bedding in a smaller package, hence "Ultra Compressed".

Q - WHY ARE SOME BALES VERY HEAVY AND OTHERS ARE VERY LIGHT?

A - Generally, some bales can be heavier because of the large amount of sawdust, fines or wet shavings. A premium bedding may have a small amount of fines but consist mainly of thin shavings to maximize absorption and cushioning capabilities. Suncoast Bedding is precisely the same . . . bale after bale, and is lighter in weight because of the very dry nature of the product and the minimum amount of fines.

Q - WHEN I OPEN A VERY HEAVY BALE THE LOOSE AMOUNT LOOKS LIKE LESS VOLUME THAN FLUFFY LIGHTER BALES. WHY IS THAT?

A - Yes, you are right. Sawdust/fines are like trying to compact sand. Try it for yourself, pick up a large handful of fluffy shavings and squeeze it. You can feel the compaction. Then pick up a handful of sand and try to compact it. You can't.

Q - HOW CAN I MAKE AN INFORMED PURCHASE DECISION WHEN SOME BALES DON'T TELL ME THE QUANTITY OF SHAVINGS LOOSE?

A - Suncoast agrees - you can' t! Federal labeling laws require animal bedding to be sold by volume (cubic feet). The law also requires the quantity declaration must include both the quantity in the compressed state and the usable quantity loose.
